Description

The manager of the nursery, Lynne McNally is the named SENCO for the setting. Having undertaken 9-week course and gaining a wealth of knowledge.

Practitioners in the nursery have all gained knowledge regarding child development and are confident in referring any children to the SENCO if they have any concerns regarding their development.

The manager/SENCO also monitors children’s development routinely and if a child is not making progress this would be identified early and a plan put in place to support the child to make progress.

We have excellent partnership with parents at 0-2-5 Nursery Ltd.

We are currently in the process of gaining the LPPA (Leading Parents Partnership Award) we feel that this is a real strength of the nursery.

By working closely with parents, we can ensure that the child makes the best progress possible. Parents and staff will work on a support plan together so that children will have the same aims and outcomes at home as well as in the nursery environment.

We consult with parents in a variety of ways which consists of 1-1 meetings, telephone calls and emails.

Meetings will always be arranged at a time chosen by parents as the nursery can be flexible.

Where we have concerns about a child and/or where a child has identified additional needs or a disability, we will find out as much as possible about the needs of the child and any support the child or family may need to ensure the child makes the best progress in their learning and development.

We do this by:

  • Liaising with the child’s parents.
  • Observing each child’s development and monitoring such observations regularly.
  • Liaising with any other relevant professionals engaged with the child and their family.
  • Seeking any specialist help and support.
  • Researching relevant publications/sources of help.
  • Reading any reports that have been prepared.
  • Attending any assessment meetings with the local authority/professionals.

Transition into the nursery is arranged with parents with an individual settling plan depending on children’s previous experiences and parents’ wishes.  Settling can be done over a period of 1-3 weeks or more if required.

Settling sessions usually begin with a home visit where parents and children can feel at ease in their home surrounding and staff can observe the children and meet them in this homely environment.  025 Nursery recognises that not all parents will want a home visit.

A gradual programme of settling in will done, starting with a session with parents and then gradually building up to where children are left alone.

Discussion with parents and other external agencies who are involved with the child will take place during this time if they are already involved.

If children attend multiple settings, we will work together to ensure the best outcomes for the child.

When children move on to another setting, all information and documentation is shared with the new setting.  Staff from the new setting will also be invited to come to our setting to meet the child and observe them at nursery.

In accordance with our admissions policy, we are committed to providing a child care place whenever possible, for children who may have special educational needs (SEN) and/or disabilities according to their individual circumstances, and the nursery’s ability to make any reasonable adjustments in order to provide the necessary standard of care.  We recognise that children with disabilities may not have SEN but may need nursery to make reasonable adjustments to enable them to make full use of the nursery’s facilities.

Where we believe that a child may have learning difficulties and/or a disability that has not been previously acknowledged, we will work closely with the child’s parents and any other professionals to establish the child’s needs and to secure any action that may be required.

At all times we will work alongside each child’s parents and any relevant professionals to share information, identify needs and help the child and their family access the support they need.

The SENCO will provide a lead for staff in relation to SEN and disabilities and to make sure procedures are followed, appropriate records kept and parents are involved.

Parents will be supported by the staff at nursery and will be consulted with and kept informed at all stages of the process. All information will be shared with parents’ individual plans will be created for the child in conjunction with parents, with suggestions of what may be beneficial at home.

All observations any plans that have been created will be shared with parents, and a copy sent home with suggested activities for the parents to do at home with their child to aid their development.

At 0-2-5 Nursery Ltd we want to ensure that all children have the support of opportunities to help all children achieve their full potential.
