I AM Celebrating Autism in Greater Manchester
I AM was set up in 1968 as a support group for parents of children with ASC. It was previously known as the Autistic Society Greater Manchester Area (ASGMA). From these humble beginnings, over 50 years ago, we have grown and developed our services to become a highly respected and creditable autism support charity (Reg No 1089527).
We support individuals from the age of 10 upwards, there is no upper age limit, who have a diagnosis of autism. We work across the 10 boroughs of Greater Manchester. We are unique in that, amongst other activities, we offer a free Information and Advice line, deliver individualised tailored support and a wide range of social and leisure activities for individuals with ASC.
Services offered include:
- One-to-One person-centred support
- Outreach support (an ad hoc service to support with specific short-term needs)
- Social and leisure activities
- Advice and information service
- Online Zoom Chat social groups
- Parents support group
- Training and consultancy
- Other activities including “Big Days” out
I AM is unique in the holistic range of support that it provides to individuals with ASC, their families, and others with an interest in ASC. Most importantly it uses its decades of experience to place the individual at the centre of all that we do in order to build a better and more equal society for all.
