Description

We have a learning journey which is completed and provides evidence such as photo's and observations that support an overview of the child's progress and development.  The learning journey is shared with the parent firstly and then the school.  Schools are invited in to visit us and the child shows the teacher around the nursery.  This has been very successful with the schools that participate and we have had some lovely feedback.  Children view school websites and look at the uniform, gallery and menu.  We also have a unique settling in system which has been recognised by Ofsted providing parents and children/babies with the opportunity to really get to know the nursery, key person well before starting nursery. The transition through the nursery is well supported and children move through without upset of becoming unsettled, parents are also involved in this.

Children's individual  needs are identified by observation and recorded to build a picture using the EYFS and the child's progress and the child's response to the routine is also noted.

We have referred a number of children to Speech Therapist and worked with the Children Education Psychologist, Social services, family support and Health Visitors. In addition we have worked with Trafford Park SEN unit and supported the Statement of a child with SEN. which was a lengthy progress.

We have made adjustments for individual requirements on a case by case review of on how we can best meet the needs of the child.  This has involved 1-1 care and supervision or sessions, extra planning of activities to promote inclusion.  Children have at times been grouped by stage and not age provision.  We have and continue to work closely with parents from a variety of backgrounds, including parents with learning difficulties, lack of parenting skills and children from disadvantaged backgrounds as well as single parents.  We have had meetings with parents and given support and guidance including making our own advice small booklets.

Parents have been very responsive and have attended meetings to discuss progress reports, helping us to identify needs at nursery and at home.  We have worked predominately with children that have communication difficulties but also a small number of children with Autism and one case of Junior arthritis and one child with Global developmental delay which also involved a whole team of therapists and physio therapy.
