Sensory Support Service: Multi-Sensory Impairment

The Service will offer support and guidance for children and young people 0-25 years who have dual sensory impairment, Multi-Sensory Impairment, Multi-Disabled Sensory Impairment and Children who are DeafBlind.

Children who have multi sensory impairment (MSI) have needs for provision relating to vision, hearing and/or other senses. Their sensory needs may be present at birth or acquired later. Some of these children also have medical, physical and cognitive disabilities. MSI impacts on all areas of learning and children may need additional support to learn to communicate and develop socially.

Through working closely with the child or young person the family, schools and settings, the service can provide information and strategies for development; for example, the functional use of vision and/or hearing, development of communication, mobility, tactile skills and environmental adaptations.
