Local Offer

Description

St Cuthbert’s is committed to valuing diversity by providing equality of opportunity and anti-discriminatory practice for all children and families.

The nursery throughout the years has had lots of experience working with SEN children. The nursery works well with other professionals enabling the very best outcomes for all the children needing extra support.

We have had experience and supported children with Dwarfism, Cerebral Palsy, Individual Behaviour Plans, Medical and Physical Disabilities, Visual impairments, Suspected Autism, Suspected ADHD, Sensory Impairments, Epilepsy, Speech/Social Communication Impairments, Asthma and English as an additional language.

Our SENCO is available to ensure that appropriate action can be taken when a child is identified as having special educational needs or disabilities. Extra support can be arranged for these children.

The induction process is offered on an individual basis and tailored according to the child’s/family’s needs.

We offer settling in sessions, home visits can be arranged, we collect information about each child from our One Page Profiles.

Each child is allocated their own key-person to support the children and their families.

We identify the children’s needs through daily observations and assessment.

To monitor development and progress we use:-

  • Baseline assessments/two year old checks.
  • Follow the curriculum set out by the EYFS. (Early Years Foundation Stage)
  • Adhere to the SEND Code of Practice.
  • Reviewing each child’s progress at regular staff meetings.
  • Provide Additional Support Plans and continuously review the plans.
  • Liaise with other settings and care providers.
  • Work closely with parents/carers to share information or concerns.
  • Communicating with appropriate professionals when needs arise.
  • Recommended support from outside agencies.

We pride ourselves on our open-door policy enabling our parents/carers and other professionals the freedom to consult with the managers or child’s key-person.

We aim to implement any changes that would be recommended by parents/carers to the best of our ability; for example, purchasing resources, adapting our daily routine.

The Manager is a qualified teacher with 25 years experience of working in Early Years and Key Stage 1.  We have a Deputy Manager, a Room Manager and a SENDCo, alongside 5 pre-school assistants. All our staff are qualified to a minimum level 3, and two are qualified teachers. All staff are qualified in Safeguarding and Paediatric First Aid, and regularly undertake a variety of other training. We also have volunteers who come in to help.

We fully support the transition to school.

  • We work closely with the Primary Inclusion Team.
  • Arrange and host transitional meetings between professionals/outside agencies, key-person, SENCO and parents/carers.
  • We ensure all the information and reports are shared with the new school/setting.

The key person accompanies SEN children to their school visits.
