- Description
At Nina’s Nursery we ask parents to come and meet the staff that are going to be looking after their child in the age appropriate room. In this settling in session we ask parents to fill in a range of forms including the child’s routine, any additional needs and also if the family are involved with any other agencies. We also give written and verbal handovers at the end of each day with how the child has eaten, slept and the activities that they have taken part in. With regards to settling into schools we have close relationships with teachers and invite them in to meet the children and us before the child goes to school. Before the child goes to school we send the teachers a written report of where each child is up to and what they enjoy doing.
We identify children’s needs by observing the child each week and monitoring their development. From this we then link to the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and track the children’s development. This shows us where each child is up to developmentally in each area of learning and may show us where they need encouragement. We then track monthly to make sure we closely monitor a child’s progress.
We work with local agencies in order to give staff the correct training when we have a child with impairments within our setting. This ranges from Speech and Language and hearing impairments as well as supporting children who are Autistic. We would be more than happy to have stair lifts and ramps put in place if we had a child with physical impairments.
At the end of the day we give parents written and verbal feedback about the day’s events. We are also very open with our parents and have good communication and relationships with all parents. This enables us to talk freely with regards to the child’s development and if the parents or ourselves have any concerns regarding this we can talk to each other about it. We also have Parent’s Evening every year to enable the parents to look through their child’s development records and ask any questions that they may have. The children’s files are also kept accessible to the parents so they can view these at any time, not just at Parent’s Evening.
We have regular training nights with all staff members. Each child is assigned to a Key Person when they start with us and if the child does have additional needs we ensure that their Key Person, along with the other staff have the correct training into these needs to support the child. As a nursery we are more than capable at catering for children with additional needs.
As a nursery we are involved with portage workers and occupational therapists along with speech and language therapists. These agencies come into nursery to help and support the staff members. This may be from giving staff members activities to promote the child’s development to asking how the child adapts in the nursery setting and any additional support they can offer the nursery.
We work very closely with our parents and offer help and advice at any point throughout the child’s time at nursery. We also can provide activities and resources for the parents to take home and complete with the child. We also ask the parents for input into the children’s planning we carry out each week.
