Brabyns Preparatory School Nursery
Rated Outstanding by the Independent Schools Inspectorate, the Nursery at Brabyns Preparatory School consists of two classes: Little Gems and Kindergarten.
Brabyns Nursery welcomes children from the age of two and is the first phase of life at Brabyns. We endeavour to be one big family where our priority is to ensure the children feel secure and happy, within a cosy and nurturing environment. Here the children learn through a combination of planned and child-initiated, stimulating play activities under the close supervision of qualified nursery staff who are dedicated to the well being of each child.
Our youngest pupils benefit from two newly refurbished classrooms, with a dedicated outdoor space overlooking the picturesque countryside that surrounds the school.
All children in Nursery are guaranteed a place in our Reception Class.

- Description
Brabyns Nursery is part of our School and caters for children from 2 up until they go to School. We benefit from the use of the School’s facilities and from having a qualified teacher and specialist teachers. We provide children with a loving, warm and caring atmosphere and environment which helps them to thrive in their learning. We allow for children to progress in their learning by providing a wealth of resources and activities for them to access.
Key workers and fellow practitioners are dedicated in caring for children and helping them to progress from their starting points to further areas of development, flourishing in their learning and development.
We have due regard for all legislation and equal opportunities for children and their families and help support children with a variety of learning and developmental needs. Robust policy and procedures within the setting promotes this and also provides the framework for practitioners to support children in a well structured environment.
As our Nursery is part of the School we benefit from being able to call upon a range of teachers' experience and expertise to help support children as needed including our SEND Coordinator. Children and parents are supported on an individual basis, both at the start when support may be needed to help settle in children and ongoing.
Individual needs are identified as we watch and support children's development and this is discussed with parents accordingly. Any children who are identified are regularly reviewed including open conversation (both formal and informal) and support for parents (including ideas for them to do at home).
Staff are provided with general training and then different staff have areas of expertise. We also train staff accordingly if a child joins us in an area we have less experience. Our Nursery follows a Makaton programme so staff and children are particularly proficient at supporting children with communication difficulties.
If children join us and we need to adapt our physical facilities or teaching/care then we do this according to children's needs and in consultation with the children's parents.
