Yoga 2 Calm

Yoga2calm was established in 2009 by Kay Locke, to provide a therapeutic yoga service for anyone who would not normally choose or feel able to attend yoga classes as they have additional needs. Yoga2calm has developed a yoga service for mental health, adults with special needs and children and families with additional needs including Aspergers Syndrome.  Clients include Stockport LA, Manchester NHS and many charities including Space4autism in Macclesfield.

Kay Locke is a Yoga Therapist for Mental Health and Special Needs based in Manchester. In addition to her Minded Yoga Therapy training Kay has a PGC in Autism from Sheffield Hallam University and numerous postgraduate trainings to support her specialist interest in working with individuals impacted by disability. Kay teaches yoga and mindfulness sessions at Wythenshawe Hospital Mental Health Unit in Manchester covering four wards a week including the Intensive Care Unit. Kay also offers small group and individual therapy sessions including the Minded Yoga 8 week course in Stockport and Didsbury. Providing services for Stockport Local Authority and local charities Kay also facilitates weekly mindfulness and movement sessions for children and families impacted by ASC, adults with special needs and carers’ relaxation and mindfulness classes. Kay explains:

“Working therapeutically with yoga supporting a wide range of people to relieve symptoms of stress, anxiety and depression is very rewarding. Many clients repeatedly explain that taking part in the 8 week Minded Yoga Course far exceeds their original expectations, and the positive outcomes are life changing so that even their friends and family have witnessed positive change. Many clients recognise their new found skills and quickly develop a commitment to continue their yoga and mindfulness practice.”

“My aim is to facilitate a safe supportive environment for all clients regardless of their mental or physical ability to develop and enjoy new found skills to release tension from the body, breath and mind.”
