Heald Green Methodist Pre-School
We are a non profit making, pack away setting and have been running for over 40 years.
Our pre-school aims to have regard for the SEN Code of Practice which addresses the identification and assessment of special educational needs.
We endeavour to provide equal opportunities for all children regardless of need and ability. Children with identified special needs are admitted to pre-school after consultation between parents/carers and the SENCO.
We have 5 members of experienced, caring staff and our SEN team works closely with parents, schools, children's and health services. This ensures that children with special educational needs get the most out of their school life and maximise their achievements.

- Description
We are an inclusive setting and we are accessible to all children. There is wheelchair access and disabled toilets to the main entrance. We support children with English as an additional language. We serve Heald Green and the surrounding areas.
When your child starts pre-school they will be assigned a key person who is responsible to help them feel, settled happy and safe encouraging their development and learning.
Introductory visits with the child and parent are in place to meet the key person and staff within the setting. Our system of observation and record keeping enables us to monitor children’s needs and progress. Children are assessed using a staged approach following the Early Years Foundation Stage. An initial base line assessment is carried out on entry and followed by continuous observations and reviews This allows us to highlight any areas of concern.
The pre-school employs 5 caring and experienced members of staff. The Manager holds an Early Years Foundation Degree and Special Educational Needs Level 4. All staff have a secure knowledge of the new EYFS framework. All staff attend training sessions throughout the year. Training is cascaded back to everyone at regular staff meetings. ALL STAFF are First Aid Trained.
Our SENCO facilitates the Stockport SENCO Network and has experience of working with a range of professionals including, Portage, Educational Psychologist, Behaviour Support, Speech & Language.
We have an open door policy and parents can talk to staff at any time. If the staff member is unavailable, parents can telephone/email with any concerns/queries or make an appointment. We hold formal parents evenings 3 times a year and parents/carers are invited into the setting for numerous events i.e. tea party, book time, singing time, concerts and graduation. We work closely with parents to ensure consistent communication based around each individual child.
Home Visits
The purpose of a home visit is to help the child, their family and pre-school get to know more about each other in their home environment and to ensure that we maintain confidentiality. This supports the child and family through their transition into pre-school.
School Visits
During each Summer term we contact the schools the children will be moving on to and invite reception teachers into our setting to meet the children. The SENCO and key person then visit each school with the children’s Learning Journey, SEN documentation and record of achievement books. This allows us to give the school an insight of the children before they start in September.
The SENCO arranges extra visits for children to their school, if needed. This enables them to be more familiar with their new surroundings and staff. The SENCO accompanies the child and takes part in a range of school activities i.e. lunch, registration and play time.
We invite children and families to return for a Reunion party in October. This allows parents/children to keep in touch with friends and allows us to see the children's progress.
