Description

All of our staff are trained to at least NVQ level 2 and all staff are paediatric first aid trained. The SENCO is regularly on training courses and this information is the cascaded down to  the other members of staff. The SENCO has access to outside cluster meetings each month and gains valuable information and contacts from these.

Our setting is fully accessible with no stairs to the front door and a lift to access the top floors.

At Greenbank we believe that interaction and liaising with parents is of the upmost importance and we do these in many ways. We have open mornings and parents evenings twice a year that all parents are welcome to attend and a stay and play session each year where the parents can come and join in activities with staff and children. On a daily basis each child has a home book which is filled in to say what they have been doing in the day and any other information that may need to be passed onto the parents and the parents can use this in the same way writing in it any information that they feel we may need to know.

If there are ever any needs identified a meeting with key worker and SENCO and parent would be arranged to discuss further steps.

When a child first attends our setting they are offered settling in sessions, on these sessions parents will get to know the staff in the room and know who they will be leaving their child with on a daily basis. These sessions will continue as the child moves up through the nursery so that they feel comfortable in each room they are in.

When the time comes for the child to attend school our Preschool teacher makes visits to the schools to pass on learning journeys and all other relevant information.

We identify children’s needs by working with them very closely, we make observations on them and have a tracking grid for each child with the key areas on it so we can see where there learning goals need to be focussed.

When the child reaches two it is a requirement that they have a two year check with their health visitor and they will be called for this shortly before or after their second birthday, to correspond with this we will complete a two year check that will be given to the parent to take to the health visitor. Any issues raised in this will be discussed in a meeting with the SENCO and your child’s keyworker.

Once a concern has been raised a file will be kept and the SENCO will review this often to see what needs to be done next and often another parents meeting will be planned to keep parents informed of progress and give their own feedback on concerns they may have.

In our setting we are currently working with educational psychologists, speech and language and occupational therapists and gaining contacts with local services.
