- Description
Nursery Rhymes is committed to the inclusion of all children. All children have the right to be cared for and educated to develop to their full potential alongside each other through positive experiences, to enable them to share opportunities, develop and learn from each other. We provide a positive and welcoming environment where children are supported according to their individual needs.
Before you leave your child with us we will invite you both in for stay and play sessions so children can explore their new environment and we have an opportunity to get to know you and your child.
We will complete an ‘All about me’ form which gathers information on the child’s likes/dislikes, strengths, areas of support, routines and interests.
Your child’s Key Person will work with you to identify the child’s starting points which enables us to track their development and plan according to their needs. All settling in sessions are free.
When a child comes to leave we work closely with the next setting to discuss your child’s development and next steps and ensure information exchange and continuity of care. We also invite the key person/Teacher from their new setting to come into the nursery to spend time with the child and encourage parents/carers to create a photograph book of their next setting for children to share at the nursery to help support them through their transition.
The nursery provides a home-link diary which supports communication between you and your child’s key persons. This includes activities your child has been involved in, what their current interests are and any next steps which can also be supported at home and in the nursery setting. Children’s Learning Journeys containing photographs, observations and next steps are also accessible for you to see and take home if you wish. We hold an annual parent’s evening which allows parents/carers to come and talk with their child’s key person and our SENco is also available to talk to if required.
We liaise with other professionals involved with supporting your child. Since opening in September 2013 we have worked alongside speech and Language Therapists and have also worked closely with the Sensory Support Service regarding a child with visual Impairment. We have also received support on how to adapt our provision to meet the needs of children, including developing visual ‘Time lines’ and placing Makaton Symbols within the environment.
All staff have accessed child development training and have experience of working with children within the Early Years age range. Our Manager holds Early Years Professional status and supports practitioners within the nursery. Our SENco has completed SENco Training and attends termly SENco meetings to keep their knowledge and understanding up to date, this information is then shared with other practitioners through room meetings and can offer support and advice to the key person and parents/carers. Further courses such as behaviour management, equality, diversity and inclusion training have been attended by other staff members and all staff have up to date First Aid and Safeguarding Training. Our Manager has also attended recent ‘I CAN’ training which focuses on Speech and Language support for children and this is shared with practitioners and regular workshops are held to give support for practitioners when carrying out activities and identifying children’s needs. If required staff will attend training related to a child’s needs before they start the nursery.
The nursery building has wheel chair access and all toilet and washing facilities are based on the ground floor and accessible to all.
