- Description
We have a fully accessible nursery with an adapted changing area/toilet for a child who requires hoist facilities.
We support the family by a home visit to assess the needs of the child.
We communicate with the school well and discuss with them individual requirements, ensuring the parents and children have visited the school and the staff have come to the setting to see them in their current setting.
We adapt the rooms to meet the needs of the child to ensure they are fully integrated into the nursery and participate fully in the nursery day. We communicate with their lead professionals prior to the child starting to ensure we can support the child and make the transition as easy as possible.
We arrange meetings with the parent and the child’s key person to ensure they are aware of the child’s development and understand they can come in to speak to us at any time.
Staff are trained on aspects of inclusion and depending on the individual child, additional training is undertaking by a specialist i.e. hoist training.
If a child is in a wheelchair and requires a hoist to be moved, most of the staff have completed this training. We have also been trained on giving insulin injections and monitoring blood sugar levels.
We have worked with diabetic nurse, physiotherapist and occupational therapist in the past.
During staff supervisions and reviews, we look at the needs of the child and support the staff with their individual development and support them with additional training as required.
