Julie Ann Brannan
I am an Ofsted registered childminder living in Heaton Chapel, Stockport.
I have been childminding since 2004 and I am accredited to offer the 15 or 30 hr funding to 3 and 4 year olds, and the 2 Year Old offer to eligible 2 year olds (transport can be provided in some cases).
Children in my care have the use of 2 large downstairs rooms, kitchen, bathroom and garden. I am close to Highfield Country Park, local stables and have an allotment.
I have 3 children and 2 grown up stepchildren. Only the youngest child is still at home.
My background is as a Special Needs Careers Adviser. I have a degree in English and a Post Graduate Careers Diploma. I have completed the Paediatric First Aid Course, I am qualified to Level 3 in Child Care and have recently taken the PTLLS course which enables me to tutor/teach other childminders.
I work as a Support Childminder, offering advice and help to local childminders during their first year of childminding.

- Description
I support children's transition to my setting by allowing them to settle in over a long period of time, with shorter sessions, sometimes with parents staying. I support their transition onto other settings by taking them for visits to their future school/nursery. As I drop off and pick up from a variety of nurseries and school, younger children become familiar with the routine
I identify their needs by regular observations, assessing their development and reviewing how I can meet their needs. Children have a written statement of development when they start at my setting, which is updated.
I am willing to make reasonable adjustments to my childminding setting to meet individual needs.
I consult with parents to discuss children's needs. I use a daily diary and send regular questionnaires/feedback forms for parents to complete. Parents can speak to me in person or use text, email, phone.
I attend regular training on special educational needs and disability. I have experience of working with the Portage service to help children meet their goals through play. I have worked with children through the community care programme. My previous career was as a special needs careers adviser and I have 12 years experience of working in special schools.
Parents receive a weekly sheet with photos and description of our activities. This may make suggestions of how parents can support their child’s development. They also receive regular development updates and we discuss next steps and suggest activities which can be undertaken at home.
