School Nurses
Stockport School Nursing Services are part of the Women, Children and Diagnostics Business Group of Stockport NHS Foundation Trust, and is also part of a wider integrated children’s service with Stockport Council called ‘Stockport Family’ which is an improved way of working with children and families in Stockport. The service includes health visiting, early help and social care services.
School nursing is a universal public health service for children and young people of school age encompassing the Healthy Child Programme 0-19 (2016). This is a nationally developed evidenced based programme which is available to all children and aims to ensure that every child gets the good start they need to lay the foundations of a healthy life.
We have a skill mix team comprising:
School Nurses – who are qualified nurses with an additional specialist public health qualification, which is recordable with the Nursing and Midwifery Council
Community Staff Nurses – who are qualified general nurses, children’s nurses or mental health nurses working in the community under the direction of a school nurse
School Nurse Assistants – who are members of the skill mix team with additional training to deliver the National Child Measurement Programme and support the National Immunisation Programme
Paediatric Continence Team – specialist nurses who offer support with continence issues for children up to age 19
Immunisation Team – skill mix team who offer immunisations in schools as per the National Immunisation Schedule
