ARC: Agriculture and Rural Centre's Alternative Curriculum Provision
The Agricultural and Rural Centre is a centre that offers a farming environment to enable young people aged 11 - 17 to re-engage in Education through working with animals and on the land.
We offer you the opportunity to work with a large range of animals, including horses, alpaca's, goats, sheep, rabbits, hens and ducks. You will have a full "hands-on" experience of working with the animals, including holding, grooming, cuddling and caring for them. We are especially good at helping you to regulate your behaviours and emotions and we work closely with your school to offer you a comprehensive re-integration package. Our aim is to support you in eventually working in the farming or animal industries.
All of our young people have successfully increased their attendance from 0% to at least 90%. Most of our young people have secured employment once leaving us at aged 17 years and the rest have gone on to Further education or apprenticeship schemes.
Alternative curriculum provision and qualification you can gain. We are an accredited AQA centre that offer Unit awards in a large range of Agricultural and Horticultural studies that are useful for the farming and animal industries. We have qualified staff who work with you on these studies as well as supporting you with your Functional Skills or GCSE's in Mathematics, English, Biology and ICT. We will deliver the work that your school has planned for you to ensure that you reach your potential.
Costings: £60 per day with our support or £25 per day with the schools own support.
What would a typical week look like with us? Young people will spend mornings doing "hands-on" work with the animals and studying Unit Awards. Students will spend at least two afternoons working with our qualified teachers or HLTA's on numeracy and literacy skills from Entry level up to GCSE. Students who are with us full time will spend one morning a week in their school with our staff as part of their re-integration package. We also offer 1:1 support . We also work closely with your parents and guardians to help support you.

How you support young people with SEND We offer a nurture programme and a baseline assessment package through the Marjorie Boxall profile as well as regular academic assessments and regular pupil progress reports. We have a qualified SENCO who ensures a person centred approach to learning includes a therapeutic approach to learning, including Animal Assisted Therapy. We offer a good re-integration package back into education that raises attendance and engagement.
We are especially successful with students who present with Social, emotional and Behavioural difficulties, ADHD, ASD and Learning Disabilities. We support students with or without a SEND statement or EHC plan and are happy for our SENCO to help to support EHC applications.
This is an outside venue with limited wheelchair access and those with mobility problems may be restricted in the activities they can get involved in.
