Primary (4-11 years)

If your child has Special Educational Needs (SEN) and/or a disability, they may need additional support to ensure that they are able to learn to the best of their ability and participate with their peers whilst at School.

If your child has additional support needs whilst at their Early Years Setting (e.g. Nursery or Pre School) then they may already have an Education, Health and Care (EHC) Plan.

During the child’s time at Primary School, a child who already has an EHC Plan will remain supported by this process unless the child’s needs are identified as having reduced, whereby then can be appropriately supported by the SEN support or Common Assessment Framework (CAF)/Team Around the Child (TAC) process.

A child who is identified as having additional learning support needs that can be resourced appropriately by the child’s School, will be termed as being in receipt of SEN Support.

If the needs of a child escalate and there is evidence that the School have exhausted all of the resources they have to meet the specific needs of the child, then the School will work with the child’s parents/carers and the Local Authority to request an EHC Plan. If you have concerns that the School are not recognising the need to start the EHC Plan process, then speak to the SEN Co-ordinator at the School and raise your concerns.
